Tom Petty Dead at 66

On Monday, Tom Petty passed away after suffering from a massive cardiac arrest. Earlier Monday, there were reports of his death, but they were later retracted and he was said to be clinging to life.

CBS News has confirmed a TMZ report that Tom Petty has been pulled off life support.

The American songwriter was found unconscious at home in California on Sunday night (October 1st), before being taken to hospital in Los Angeles.

News of the rocker's demise quickly spread online, but as we reported yesterday the initial posts about his death were unfounded. In 2002, he and the Heartbreakers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
