M&M to supply 150 electric vehicles to EESL

As per the order, EESL will source 150 electric vehicles from M&M in phase I of its mega tender process to procure 10,000 electric vehicles. Speaking to Autocar Professional, Saurabh Kumar, MD, EESL, said, "If M&M matches the price as quoted by Tata Motors, there is still a possibility of procuring 40 percent of the total order volume from Mahindra". Mahindra & Mahindra has agreed to match the lowest bidding pricing for phase I and has therefore, qualified to supply 150 electric vehicles, as per the tender conditions.

"The delivery date of electric vehicles for phase I is 30th November 2017".

Tata Motors rose 4.42% to Rs 419 at 10:24 IST on BSE on reports the company won a government contract worth Rs 1120 crore for supplying 10,000 electric cars. These electric cars are meant for usage by ministries and government departments, either through direct purchase from EESL or lease. Other companies, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and Nissan had also participated in the tender.

This tender by EESL is driven by the objective of facilitating faster adoption of disruptive solutions, while balancing economic development and environmental sustainability.
