Apple is 'looking into' why some iPhone 8 batteries are swelling

Apple's spokesman has said that they have started an investigation of the issue. The workers told him that they were sending the damaged phone in to be run through Apple's early field testing process, which probes broken devices that "have problems very early in their life or since release of the product".

Normally, customers are advised to use the same accessories that come with the phone or use a certified 3rd-party charger and cable to provide juice to the iPhone, but in this case, the phone was split open as soon as the owner removed it from the packaging. Someone in Japan then posted photos of a split-apart phone on Twitter. There was another case in Greece.

There appear to be only six or so reports so far - certainly less than a dozen that have been publicly identified - so the issue seems to be quite small in comparison to the millions of phones that Apple has likely already sold. "A very small number" of the iPhone 6S experienced unexpected shutdowns due to battery issues, Apple acknowledged previous year.

Is Iran In Violation Of The Nuclear Agreement ?
On North Korea, the president said "we will do what we must do" to prevent Pyongyang from threatening the USA and its allies. He then looked down the rows of people standing on either side of him and said: " Thank you all for coming , thank you".

Now, the newest kid on the iPhone block faces an even larger design flaw called, "splitgate". While this flaw is being called "splitgate", some phones are said to be swelling, bulging, and becoming excessively warm to the touch. The chemical makeup of lithium-ion batteries and the energy they store can however make them a potential hazard with any kind of fault.

Wall Street barely blinked at Apple's battery issues.

While swelling batteries is not almost as bad as the cells catching fire, the chemistry of modern lithium-ion batteries and the amount of energy they can store makes them unsafe with any kind of fault.

It may appear that the problem may not be widespread, but nowadays everyone is pretty attentive to such incidents in the wake of the exploding Galaxy Note 7 situation.

Correction October 6th, 4:37PM ET: The first swollen battery report occurred in Taiwan, not Thailand.
