ME motorists get some relief as post-hurricane gas prices continue decline

Several other convenient stores and gas station outlets were reported prices at $2.37 per gallon Monday.

A gallon of regular gas now averages $2.57 nationwide, according to the AAA.

The statewide average ($2.53) remains below the national average ($2.49), though it did drop 8 cents in the past week.

In Broward County, hefty price drops were occurring in the Davie area, including down to $2.29 at Rocket Fuel on Sterling Road, just west of Florida's Turnpike and $2.31 next door at Marathon.

Last month, gas prices spiked across the state following Hurricane Harvey, as major refineries were forced to shut down because of the storm.

Gas prices continue to fall in northern New England.

Alaska- $3.07/g, up 0.7 cents per gallon from last week's $3.07/g.

"Prices have entered their fourth straight week of declining nationally, a trend unlikely to be interrupted by Hurricane Nate over this past weekend".

Including the change in gas prices in Hawaii during the past week, prices yesterday were 50.1 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 3.6 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.

AAA Kansas reports that Wichita, with $2.26 a gallon pump prices ranks as the 24th lowest metro area in the nation, while Topeka at $2.28 a gallon at 33rd lowest.

That high demand, coupled with refinery disruptions after Hurricane Harvey hit the Gulf Coast, had driven prices up 42 cents a gallon over a two-week span.

As the market continues to correct itself following back-to-back major storms, and with Hurricane Nate's impact not expected to affect local prices, analysts are predicting more declines this week.
