Amazon announces waterproof Kindle Oasis

The recent Amazon product launch, which very much focussed on Alexa didn't have much news on Kindle developments.

Ten years after the first Kindles hit Amazon, the online-shopping giant is finally releasing the tablet of your dreams. The device was targeted at narrow band of customers who demand single-function device having a premium build.

This new Kindle comes with a 7-inch display and also is the first waterproof model introduced by Amazon. It is equipped with 12 LED on the screen, which provides more uniform front lighting. Amazon had been missing out on waterproofing the device until now. However, the "free 3G" connectivity will be offered via Amazon Whispernet free of cost. An integrated ambient light sensor helps keep tab on brightness based on your surroundings, and though the page-turn buttons on the side look identical, they now boast the fastest page turns of any Kindle device to date. The larger surface area offers more area for battery to spread out for even distribution of weight of device. Depending on which hand you use, the inbuilt accelerometer can change the device's orientation.

The new model also has Bluetooth and integrates with Amazon's Audible service to stream audio books to wireless headphones or speakers.

The e-reader is now up for pre-order on and will start shipping from November 13. The default storage capacity is 4GB and can be increased to 8GB. Moreover, a 32 GB version is made available for storage of Audible files.
