TN BJP fumes over 'untruths' of GST in 'Mersal', wants dialogues deleted

With the BJP calling for cuts, Vijay's father and film director SA Chandrasekhar said, "Censor board has members of all parties and it's reviewed by them".

Noting that "Mersal" was the company's 100th production, Ramaswamy said that the entire team worked hard for a year to make the film and it was screened after overcoming several hurdles. "The point of the film is that it's a doctor's dream to see that ordinary people should get good healthcare", states the producers.

Sri Thenandal Films is a well-known film production house in Tamil Nadu.

Mr Gandhi's tweet came after "Mersal" came under attack from BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu who allege that some dialogues portray "untruths" about new national tax GST or Goods and Services Tax and the centre's Digital India campaign. These dialogues from the film "Mersal" have affected the GST Scheme which was recently introduced by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Parasakthi was a 1952 Tamil film critical of Brahmanism. "Why can't the government provide free medical care?", says the character, played by south Indian star Vijay, who goes by one name.

Raja was reiterating the stand of the BJP and right-wing outfits that the state government should stop administering temples and hand them over to devotees.

She also wondered whether Vijay had asked his fans to distribute milk to poor children instead of pouring it on his cutouts erected outside the theatres.

In another tweet, he alluded to the actor's religion, noting, "Churches built in TN in last 20 yrs - 17500. mosques: 9700. temples: 370". "A film which is CERTIFIED by censor board can not be questioned".

Veteran Actor Kamal Hassan responded over this issue and said.

"Don't silence critics. India will shine when it speaks".

At this, the Congress quickly hit out at the BJP party for attempting to suffocate freedom of creative expression.

If there is any problem with Vijay's movie, then the best way is to approach the court and that will be quite legal.
