USA reportedly putting nuclear bombers back on high alert

The U.S. Air Force is readying its nuclear bombers for 24-hour alert status, according to a Defense One report.

Renovations are reportedly being made to Barksdale Air Force base in Louisiana, home to the 2nd Bomb Wing and Air Force Global Strike Command, which oversees United States nuclear forces.

Air Force chief of staff Gen. David Goldfein said during an interview that the measure is more of being ready for a situation, and not planning for any one "specific event".

"This is yet one more step in ensuring that we're prepared", he said during a tour of Air Force bases home to nuclear bombers.

Kaspersky launches transparency initiative
In an attempt to win back the public's trust, the company has announced what it calls a "comprehensive transparency initiative". That's why we're launching this Global Transparency Initiative: we want to show how we're completely open and transparent.

"The day we are not prepared is the day something can happen", said Bekah Clark, a spokeswoman for Strategic Command.

The alert order has not yet come down from on high, but General Goldfein confirmed that the Air Force anticipates the need to permanently park B-52s, loaded with nuclear bombs, out on the gray, Cold War-era concrete slabs of Barksdale's Christmas tree.

The decision was made against the backdrop of "the rapid development of North Korea's nuclear arsenal", according to David Goldfein and other senior United States military officials quoted by the newspaper, which in turn 'do not hesitate to emphasize President Trump's hawkish approach to Pyongyang.' The rise in Russian military potential is also cited.

U.S. Strategic Command, which oversees the military's nuclear weapons from its headquarters in Nebraska, denied that any discussions are underway to place B-52s on alert. "It has never been so important to ensure this mission", he adds.

London's new £10 T-Charge launches today
About 438 schools in London are in areas exceeding legal air quality levels, according to the London mayor's office. Mayor Sadiq Khan , who introduced the scheme, claimed London now has "the world's toughest emission standard".

The professor voiced the opinion that North Korea may even be able to hit Los Angeles with a nuclear device and if that were to happen then the USA would "heavily attack North Korea and that will be the end of the regime".

The Christmas tree at Barksdale will also be receiving two additional visitors soon, the E-4B Nightwatch and E-6B Mercury. If a strike order is given by the president, the planes would be used to transmit launch codes to bombers, ICBMs and submarines.

As part of the preparations, bases with nuclear bombers are set to build storage hangars for a new nuclear cruise missile being developed, the report said.

So in addition to President Trump's confrontational rebuttals and Russia's increasingly confident armed forces, General Goldfein said it's best to be prepared. They are republished from a number of sources, and are not produced by MintPress News.
