Target joins retailers in kicking off Black Friday deals early

On Monday, Target released its Black Friday ad earlier than ever before.

The retailer's 1,828 stores will open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving, just like previous year, and close at midnight.

Also new this year, Target will be offering free shipping on holiday items.

Penney raised eyebrows two years ago when it chose to open as early as 3 p.m., a time when director competitors were closed, raising legitimate questions about who exactly needs to be at J.C. Penney right when tens of millions of Americans are sitting down to table for their Thanksgiving meal.

Last year, a NerdWallet study found that some stores inflated the amount of certain Black Friday discounts to make deals appear better than they actually were. Deals and offers are valid through Saturday, November 18, including a FREE $10 Toys "R" Us Gift Card on purchases of $75 or more.
