All sides to attend Labour Court talks over Irish Rail strike

All sides to attend Labour Court talks over Irish Rail strike

Strike action has caused delays and cancellations across the Southern network stretching back to April 2016, after Govia Thameslink Railway - Southern's parent company - announced plans to remove conductors from its trains, leaving them exclusively operated by the driver.

'We are pleased with a resolution, which we believe, works for the staff and the company, and we now look forward to working with Southern Rial to restore good industrial relations and deliver the service passengers in the region deserve'.

A spokesperson for the Transport Department dismissed the strikes as part of the RMT's "political game", claiming "rail companies are keeping passengers moving with the large majority of services running as planned".

"Should, in certain circumstances, a train not have that second person on board then it will still be able to run until a replacement can be provided".

Melania Trump stuns in simple sophisticated style in Japan
President Donald Trump has raised the touchy issue of trade with Japanese business leaders. "I welcome President Donald J. In the evening they were joined by their wives for dinner at a high-end eatery in the Ginza district.

Our members on Southern, after careful consideration and long and hard negotiations, have voted to accept this resolution to our industrial dispute with the company.

More train stoppages have been scheduled over the next few weeks, including match day on November 14, as workers protest to demand a 3.75% pay increase.

"Rather than scheduling further industrial action beyond that, we would urge our trade unions to take the opportunity, listen to the request of the Labour Court and stop this disruption to customers".

Many services will not be affected, but others will be cancelled, replaced by buses or busier than normal.

Management say they offered a 1.75% pay rise, based on new productivity measures.

'The independent rail regulator has said driver-controlled trains, which have been used in this country for more than 30 years, are safe'.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: "The only way that Greater Anglia can be running these services is through taking serious risks with public safety just as they did during the last phase of strike action. Only this week at the Wimbledon derailment it was the guard on that train who safely evacuated 300 passengers in an emergency situation". Most services will finish by 7pm.

Yesterday the rail network ground to a halt in the second 24 hour strike by drivers in the row over pay.
