Apple AR Headset Running 'rOS' Rumored for 2019 Launch

Apple AR Headset Running 'rOS' Rumored for 2019 Launch

AR glasses or a headset seems to be the most logical step moving forward with Apple's newfound focus on augmented reality.

According to a Bloomberg Technology report, Apple is apparently working on an augmented reality headset with goals of shipping it by 2020.

Bloomberg, which claims to have spoken with "people familiar with the situation", suggests the headset will have its own display, as opposed to using an iPhone as its screen.

According to the report, Apple's AR headset will feature its own display and will run on a new chip and OS. In virtual reality (VR), the running has been done by HTC with its Vive headset, which was developed with Valve Software and runs via Valve's popular Steam PC game download service.

Taylor Swift Shares 'Reputation' Tracklist, Confirms Ed Sheeran & Future Collab
Reputation seems to be following a similar strategy as 1989, with much of its marketing campaign focused on sales. Adele kept 25 off of Spotify for months, telling Rolling Stone that "It probably is the future , but, eh".

Speculation around Apple's intentions only increased when CEO Tim Cook earlier this year, predicted that AR technology could have as much impact as the smartphone. "AR is going to change everything".

Apple was not immediately available for comment. After creating ARKit, hundreds of engineers led by former Dolby executive Mike Rockwell have been working on the headset project in office parks scattered around Cupertino and Sunnyvale, under the codename "T288". The company will continue to develop the system over the next few years, including the release of more advanced software tools in 2018.

The report also anticipates that other areas such as education, training, and even military applications will also see significant growth, with increased developer access to devices such as the Microsoft HoloLens driving this forward.

I can't wait to see Apple's AR headset arrive. The new operating system-called "rOS" for "reality operating system"-is based on iOS, Bloomberg reported".

Tropical Storm Rina tracks deeper into the Atlantic
With maximum sustained winds of 65kmh, the storm was headed in a north-easterly direction, moving at a speed of 19kmh. Tropical storm force winds extend up to 60 mi (95 km) from the center of the storm, and are not now impacting land.

Some of Apple's competitors, including Microsoft and Google, have already delivered augmented reality headsets.

The iPhone was Apple's last big technology breakthrough when it launched 10 years ago. The chip could be similar to the integrated system used on the Apple Watch.

Apple hasn't finalised how users will control or interact with the headset just yet, but the company is said to be experimenting with Siri voice commands, head gestures and touch panels.

However, Cook also recently told The Independent that the technology needed to build such a product the right way simply "doesn't exist", and that Apple is more concerned with being the best on the market than the first. The company is also using its own devices for testing purposes, but doesn't plan to ship any of its current gear to consumers.
