Initial Call of Duty: WWII Sales Figures Revealed

But publisher Activision has now revealed some numbers that highlight exactly how well the World War 2-set shooter is performing.

Although seemingly sunshine and rainbows, Call of Duty: WWII has had its fair share of launch problems, mainly surrounding the connectivity of the game.

According to Epic Games, Fortnite has passed 20 million players across all platforms since its launch. Both PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite are now available in early access form.

Call of Duty: WWII already dominated the United Kingdom charts, making it all the way to the top, but now Activision has revealed just how well it did worldwide. It also saw the highest, total connected users on current-gen and PC for a Call of Duty game.

This year is looking particularly strong for Activision, with Destiny 2 going strong on a brand new platform and a return to Call of Duty's long-missed roots. “Call of Duty: WWII returns the franchise to its roots and the results are incredible, selling twice as many units in its opening weekend as previous year, and setting the day one record for full-game downloads on PlayStation 4. In a press release sent to GamesBeat, Activision notes that this opening tops the starting weekends for Thor: Ragnarok and Wonder Woman combined. Instead, Activision push them towards a more traditional boots-on-the-ground experience with the WWII-based game-something that players and consumers were clamoring for. For example, the game's loot box system has now been reworked so that players can open the crates in public. It means that that the companies can make far more money on top of the initial purchase price - potentially doubling that $500 million figure in the long-run.
