UCLA basketball players arrested in China, accused of shoplifting

Ball, the younger brother of National Basketball Association rookie Lonzo Ball of the Los Angeles Lakers, declined to comment when reached by phone at his hotel on Wednesday.

ESPN reported that the three players were taken into custody and questioned about shoplifting from a Louis Vuitton store next to the team's hotel in Hangzhou. "UCLA representatives, including coach Steve Alford, were at the police station along with the players". Cops zeroed in on the cargo bays of the team buses before they left for practice and they detained at least six Georgia Tech and UCLA players for several hours, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

UCLA's statement, per ESPN, said the university was aware of the incident and cooperating with Chinese authorities.

I can't. every time I look at them, every time I see them smiling, I just think. "You're angry", reporter Jon Lapook said. Raisman said she spoke to FBI investigators after serving as national team captain at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

"During the questioning, it was determined that Georgia Tech student-athletes were not involved in the activities being investigated", Georgia Tech said in the statement.

LiAngelo's father, LaVar Ball, who is in Shanghai for production on the family's reality show, had scheduled a press conference, but later canceled it after being advised by legal counsel not to speak. "The players questioned were respectful at all times".

I had Gareth for three years in Under-21s, so it wasn't too much of a new thing coming here. It seemed a bit messy with loads of pull outs, but it's been really tight.

UCLA is set to face Georgia Tech in Shanghai on Friday, but Ball, Riley and Hill won't be permitted to join the team as things stand, per Markazi.

Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott said, "We are very disappointed by any situation that detracts from the positive student-athlete educational and cultural experience that this week is about". "Whether in the United States or overseas, we expect our student-athletes to uphold the highest standards".

It is unclear whether the athletes will be allowed to play in their upcoming game against the Yellow Jackets at Baoshan Arena in Shanghai. Lavar Ball has put his three sons at the center of his clothing brand Big Baller Brand, and has often made wild claims about himself and publicly predicted success for his sons at the professional level. "It'll be fine. Everybody is making a big deal". "Basically if they don't just get rid of it right away and tell them to leave the country, what probably will happen is they'll hold them for a while, and then they'll sentence them to time served", said Justin J. Shrenger, an attorney. "We will comment shortly".
