Pacific Trade Deal Goes Forward Without United States

The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) may not be dead in the water just yet, with Canada's trade minister denying that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau deliberately skipped a leaders' meeting in Vietnam.

Trade Minister Steve Ciobo is confident Canada will sign up to the 11-country free-trade agreement that would give Australia access to markets worth $1 trillion.

"The scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Abe ... went long, we obviously had a lot to talk about, and at the end of the meeting it became clear it was in everyone's interest to postpone the meeting on TPP11", Trudeau said as an explanation.
