Delhi pollution: Punjab CM Amarinder Singh refuses to meet Arvind Kejriwal

Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday again ruled out a meeting with his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal, who wanted to hold talks over the issue of crop stubble burning, asking him not to "politicize" the serious matter.

"Khattar ji called. He is in Del till tomo". He is in Delhi till tomorrow. Says he is v busy n can't meet me in Del. He has asked me to come to Chandigarh on Wednesday. "It is in collective interest", Kejriwal tweeted on Tuesday.

Kejriwal is scheduled to arrive in Chandigarh on Wednesday to meet his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar.

On Monday, the pollution levels continued to remain "severe" in the National Capital, leading to 400 mt visibility at both national and global airports, while particulate matter was recorded at 581 and 367 for PM10 and PM2.5, respectively. He has asked me to come to Chandigarh on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, he said his office was constantly trying to fix a meeting with the Haryana chief minister.

"The only point on which I can think of engaging with Kejriwal is the financial aid, which he has indicated he may be willing to provide for Punjab to deal with the problem of stubble burning". Would be grateful if you could spare some time to meet me.

Xi reportedly said he would try to visit, and that in case he is unable to attend he will send a high-level delegation instead. But though the North has said it may be open to dialogue, it hasn't responded to invitations to take part in the Olympics.

Last week, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said the situation warranted Centre's intervention as it has inter-state implications.

Asserting that the problem of air pollution faced by Delhi and Punjab were completely divergent, with no meeting ground, Singh said that air pollution in Delhi was mainly due to urban pollution caused by mismanaged transportation and unplanned industrial development.

"Kejriwal's tendency to indulge in petty street politics is well-known", said Amarinder, adding the Aam Aadmi Party leader was evidently trying to divert public attention from "his own government's failure in Delhi to check the problem of pollution, as exposed by the response of the National Green Tribunal to the ill-conceived odd-even scheme".
