Why has England's Ruben Loftus-Cheek fallen through the cracks?

Why has England's Ruben Loftus-Cheek fallen through the cracks?

The comments come days after England manager Gareth Southgate said Loftus-Cheek's development had slowed at Chelsea as a result of competing with senior players who feared losing their places.

Loftus-Cheek's dad Trevor told The Daily Mail his son has been "held back" at Chelsea and suggested he would be better off at Spurs.

The stand-out performer was Ruben Loftus-Cheek who despite failing to break into the Chelsea first-team, showed he has the quality to compete on the worldwide stage. Mauricio Pochettino has fully reaped the rewards that have come from nurturing exciting prospects such as Harry Winks and Dele Alli, while Southampton has consistently built their first team on players from their academy such as Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers just to name a few.

"He has been able to battle through hard spells at Chelsea, training with senior players who recognised his talent, so got into him in training", the England boss was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. "Right now I've got the opportunity and platform to learn and play every week at Palace so I'm in a good place".

So, being at Palace gives me the platform to learn and develop.
"Yes, I imagine they probably saw the threat", he said after the Germany draw.

Loftus-Cheek is on-loan at the basement club until the end of the season.

"He's a big boy, he's been the same since he was 12, I think!" said Dier, commenting on Loftus-Cheek's physicality.
