Celtics Stun Warriors, Extend Winning Streak To 14 Games

The Boston Celtics faced the toughest challenge of their current win streak on Thursday, with the Golden State Warriors visiting TD Garden.

However, head coach Brad Stevens recently stated that he believes the Celtics could be playing much better than they are at this juncture, according to Chris Forsberg of ESPN.

He hit two free throws to put Boston ahead in the closing seconds. Other than Klay Thompson's three-pointer that pushed the Warriors lead to 88-86 with a 1:21 left in the fourth, no Warriors three-pointer really held much significance, and Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant were off from deep all night.

The Celtics have the best record and defensive rating and have provided plenty of surprises on the young season, and guard Kyrie Irving and forward Al Horford have developed a lethal two-man game.

The final quarter was a see-saw battle but at the 7:58 mark, the trio of Tatum, Irving and Horford conspired to spark a 22-point run to finish off the Warriors 92-88.

Boston's been able to overcome those numbers, but the end game for the Celtics isn't to be the best team in the National Basketball Association in November; it's to hang the franchise's 18th championship banner, which is why their head coach is unwilling to compromise on the standard his team has to meet.

Uncle Drew took off his legendary facemask at halftime and it seemed to energize Boston's new point guard, who was the most aggressive guy on the court down the stretch despite going 4-for-16 from the field.

Boston trailed by 47-42 at the half, after closing the quarter with a 13-2 spurt.
