Las Vegas Valley hits 80, a record high, as Thanksgiving looms

Temperatures soared into the 90s from Los Angeles to San Diego and up the Central Coast to the Bay Area on Wednesday, while much of the rest of the state basked in unseasonably balmy weather. Afternoon temperatures will be a handful of degrees below average.

Temperatures were ranging about 20 degrees above normal Wednesday, and heat records had already fallen in several locations by noon.

A mini heat wave drove Southland temperatures into record territory Wednesday, setting the stage for an uncommonly warm Thanksgiving Day, when more records are possible.

The high in Billings reached 68 by early afternoon on Thursday, besting the previous record of 65 degrees set on November 23, 1942. The record for this date is 87, set back in 1950. We warm up even further on Saturday, with highs approaching the 70 degree mark out ahead of a cold front that will move through sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Los Angeles International Airport also broke the 1950 record of 89 degrees by hitting 94 degrees.

A judicial review board rejected a request from the government of Pakistan's Punjab, to extend Saeed's detention by three months. Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai, is set to be released from house arrest tomorrow.

Sunshine will warm our afternoon temperatures into the mid-60s, but with light and variable winds, it will feel significantly warmer than it did for our Thanksgiving afternoon.

In Burbank (88 degrees), Camarillo (92 degrees) and Oxnard (91 degrees), records that had been set in 1950 were all shattered.

In Lancaster, a record of 81 degrees was reached, breaking the 1962 record of 79. No showers, nor many clouds will accompany this front, and we'll resume sunny skies for Sunday with temperatures just a few degrees cooler as compared to Saturday.
