Favourable World Cup draws for Russian Federation and England

England have drawn Belgium, Tunisia and Panama in their group for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, while defending champions Germany will face Mexico, Sweden and Korea Republic in Russian Federation. Host Russia ended up in Group A, along with Uruguay, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. They'll turn to several prominent figures for assistance in selecting the teams from four pots: France's Laurent Blanc, England's Gordon Banks, Brazil's Cafu, Italy's Fabio Cannavaro, Uruguay's Diego Forlan, Argentina's Diego Maradona, Spain's Carles Puyol and Russia's Nikita Simonyan.

Brazil's enduring memory of the last World Cup, which they hosted, will be the 7-1 defeat doled out to them by eventual champions Germany in the semi-finals of the competition.

The main contender for the label is Group C, which pits France (No. 6 in the world) against Peru (No. 11) and Denmark (which recently rose to No. 12 in FIFA's world rankings).

Group D: Argentina, Iceland, Croatia and Nigeria. Mexico is paired with World Cup victor Germany, and Sweden, who has already eliminated both the Netherlands and Italy in World Cup qualifying, along with the Korea Republic. A potential second-place finish in the group would mean a date with Brazil in the round of 16, which would make it quite hard for them to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time in the competition outside of Mexico. They were drawn in to group B with Portugal, and play them in the opener.
