Person of Interest Questioned on Teacher Shooting

According to officials, Curtis showed "no emotion" when he was told of the charge.

Friday morning, the St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney's Office said Joshua R. Curtis had been charged with first degree assault in connection with the shooting. Curtis was arrested Thursday.

The freakish turn of events began Wednesday afternoon when a 36-year-old male teacher was jogging on a trail in the conservation area, which is near the Missouri River and about 25 miles west of St. Louis. The teacher is identified in court documents only by his initials, C.W. Right after they saw one another, the other man pulled a gun and opened fire on the teacher, striking him once in the back. He was described as a while male in his 30s or 40s, wearing a black coat and tan trousers. The stranger did not acknowledge the teacher.
