ABC News suspends Brian Ross over erroneous Michael Flynn report

"As a result of our continued reporting over the next several hours ultimately we determined the information was wrong and we corrected the mistake on air and online", ABC News said in a statement after usa stocks were shaken.

ABC News president James Goldston excoriated staff Monday over Brian Ross' major error on a report about former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, and announced that Ross, the network's chief investigative reporter, will no longer cover stories related to President Trump. Goldston noted how the whole news division, especially those in D.C., have to bear the brunt of this, how it makes everyone' s job harder, and how it's more important to be right than first. On Saturday evening, ABC News said Ross had been suspended for four weeks without pay for what it termed the "serious error".

San Marcos officer fatally shot while serving arrest warrant
The officer was wearing a protective vest and was transported to Central Texas Medical Center but died shortly after police said. They described him as a hard-working and well-liked member of the department and said he leaves behind a wife and four children.

Soon after, ABC News reported that Flynn, citing a confidant, was prepared to testify that Trump directed him to make contact with Russians when he was a presidential candidate.

That would have been a big development in the ongoing investigation over whether the Trump campaign worked with the Russians to influence the election. The report raised the specter of Trump's impeachment and sent the stock market plummeting.

Additionally, Behar spoke up on Monday about her viral celebrations, saying, "So, on Friday's show, apparently I was guilty of premature evaluation. About how in this particular moment, with the stakes as high as these stakes are right now, we can not afford to get it wrong". ABC did not dispute CNN's reporting about Goldston's comments. "As a result of our continued reporting over the next several hours ultimately we determined the information was wrong and we corrected the mistake on air and online".

The mistake came at a time that the impact of Trump's attacks on the media is becoming clear. "When the president of the United States refers to the press collectively as an enemy of the people, the people who support that view will interpret certain acts of journalism as being evidence that the president is correct". And then it took us seven hours, eight hours to get our story straight.
