Facebook to launch chat app for children

Facebook has created a version of its Messenger app for children as young as six, in a move likely to raise concerns about primary school pupils accessing the social media service at an early stage in their lives. Anyway, here's what you need to know about it.

Facebook isn't serving ads in Messenger Kids, and the company isn't likely to change its stance because parents may be more likely to sign up their kids for an ad-free version of the app. Parents won't need to worry about their children asking for a product they saw an ad for on Messenger Kids, for example.

Yesterday, Facebook launched Messenger Kids, a text/video chat app geared towards children 13-and-under, to capture new users who aren't old enough to have their own FB profiles.

In the meantime, the Messenger Kids, "is the consequences of seeing what kids like", which are emoji and images, like? Any harmful content that makes its way onto Messenger Kids will be a major issue for the firm. Once their account is set up by a parent, kids can start a one-on-one or group video chat with parent-approved contacts. They'll be able to see when their contacts are online, and then they can send them photos, videos, or text messages.

Apparently, all of the purchased tickets will still be honored at the postponed date that is yet to be announced. According to TMZ , Mayer's rep confirmed that the singer was forced to undergo a last-minute appendectomy.

A library of kid-appropriate and specially chosen GIFs, frames, stickers, masks and drawing tools lets them decorate content and express their personalities. As under the federal law, users under the age of 13 legally can not sign-in and open a Facebook account or use it.

But Facebook is missing out on capturing a share of growing ad spend targeted at kids.

However the app has already drawn criticism from a large number of concerned parents with many believing the app could become exploited by sick paedophiles who will deliberately create accounts to target vunerable children. In these conversations, we heard that families want a safe way for kids to communicate with family and close friends with strong parental controls.

The Messenger Kids app is now available for iOS devices, including iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches.

No. There are no adverts in Messenger Kids.

If you're set on keeping your family within Facebook's ecosystem or just want to have a say in who your child talks to, the Messenger Kids app is worth considering.

Messenger Kids isn't Facebook's first attempt to attract a young audience. Facebook built a whole portal at MessengerKids.com with more information for parents.
