Samsung starts mass-producing first ever 512GB chips for mobile devices

Samsung starts mass-producing first ever 512GB chips for mobile devices

"This should meet the increase in demand for advanced embedded mobile storage, as well as for premium SSDs and removable memory cards with high density and performance". Samsung claims that the 512GB chip can hold approximately 130 ten minute 4K Ultra HD videos, which is good news for all the phones that come with 4K video recording capability.

Samsung's announced it's doubled the size of its largest Universal Flash Storage (eUFS) product to 512 gigabytes and started mass production of the chips.

Utilizing Samsungs latest 64-layer 512-gigabit (Gb) V-NAND chips, the new 512GB eUFS package provides unparalleled storage capacity and outstanding performance for upcoming flagship smartphones and tablets. We also expect to see the rollout of Samsung's own 2018 flagship Galaxy S9 devices at that time.

Samsung says that the chip is intended for use in next generation phones, which makes us wonder which phones will get it.

National Football League strongly considering one-game suspension for JuJu Smith-Schuster
"All I saw was the first Bengal was going to tackle. and my instinct is I gotta block for my teammate", Smith-Schuster said. Smith-Schuster told reporters he "messed up" with the taunting, because he cost his team 15 yards.

"The 64-layer 512Gb V-NAND's advanced circuit design and new power management technology in the 512GB eUFS' controller minimize the inevitable increase in energy consumed, which is particularly noteworthy since the new 512GB eUFS solution contains twice the number of cells compared to a 256GB eUFS". The 512 GB chip stacks eight of the aforementioned NAND dies and is speced for up to 860 MB/s sequential read speeds as well as up to 255 MB/s sequential write speeds, which is in line with the company's 256 GB eUFS device launched in 2016. Android benefits from the ability to install an external memory card in most devices to provide additional storage but that could be a thing of the past thanks to the internal storage capacity in Samsungs new chip hitting 512GB. This will improve the speed of storage-intensive tasks such as high-resolution burst photos, file searches, and downloading videos in dual app mode, the company states.

A boost in overall read and write performance is also expected.

Ireland to collect $15B in back taxes from Apple
According to the EU, the tax deal allowed Apple to pay nearly nothing in tax on its European profits between 2003 and 2014. Ireland now has one of the lowest corporate tax rates in Europe, asking for just 12.5 percent of big business profits.

Do you think the Galaxy S9 will be able to tout 512GB of internal storage?

Having a smartphone with 512GB of fast storage on board would certainly reduce the propensity for users to pine for SD card expandability.
