Mayor Faulconer urges Congress to pass legislation to protect Dreamers

We are again just a few days away from a potential government shutdown.

Congress should approve legislation this month to deal with the undocumented immigrants who arrived in the United States as children, U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin said Tuesday. They say they don't want a government shutdown either, but they do want an immigration bill this month.

At the same time, an amnesty for illegal aliens would betray President Trump's base of supporters, as he adamantly opposed any such plan during the 2016 presidential election. The Democrats are really looking at something that is very risky for our country.

Fact based analysis is critical to every policy debate, and it is a fact that now 86 percent of all Americans and 76 percent of Republicans support protecting Dreamers. For many, this is the only country they have ever known. They want to have illegal immigrants pouring into our country. They say they are open to working with Democrats on the legislation, but GOP leaders don't think there's a huge rush to get it done. Yesterday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was downplaying the threat of a shutdown. President Donald Trump announced in September that he would be phasing out DACA, which was established by the Obama administration and gave participants temporary protected status and made them eligible for work permits.

Germany: More than 40 injured in train crash
An estimated 50 people have been injured after a passenger train and freight train smashed into each other. A police spokesman told BILD: "Currently we cannot say how many injured it is".

A national campaign urging congressional movement on "dreamers" will begin Wednesday, with an emphasis on highlighting the beneficial financial impact to each state. Worse yet, only 34 percent of Democrats like the idea (support among independents, at 20 percent, is identical to the number of Republicans going along with it). Colcom's founder, Cordelia Scaife May, the late oil heiress, believed nature was being assailed by overpopulation and left more than $400 million to her foundation with the goal of dramatically restricting and expelling immigrants from the U.S. Today, almost half of her fortune is spent on this work, which includes deporting people like me from the only country we have ever known. "And we need to do this by the end of the year", Harris said.

Democrats don't have much leverage in Congress, except when it comes to spending bills.

As the December 8 shutdown deadline approaches, the Senate is expected to vote on a short-term stopgap spending bill Friday that would keep the government funded until December 22.

Statewide - Tomorrow, more than 10,000 immigrant youth and their allies will descend on Washington D.C. for a historic nationwide mobilization to demand a clean Dream Act before Christmas.

Rain and sleet Thursday, light snow possible overnight in Houston area
The National Weather Service on Thursday has winter weather advisories covering parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Temperatures in the Atlanta area should be slightly above freezing and won't fluctuate much through the day, Nadler said.

"We are certainly willing to enter into those good-faith negotiations, but they do not belong in an end-of-the-year spending appropriations debate", Cornyn said.

SNELL: There's reason to believe a bipartisan solution is possible.

That's why activists like Jeremy Robbins of the group New American Economy say this is a ideal time for Congress act.

"It is crucial that we bring a reasonable solution to the House floor", Love said, "so we can provide certainty to this Utah population that contributes to our communities and growing economy". The operation included a pair of rooms where lawmakers could tape messages to be aired back home.

"We deserve an immigration policy that keeps us safe without shutting our doors to those seeking the American Dream", he said in the video.
