North Korea missile prompted Singapore Air plane re-route

Singapore Airlines has changed some of its flight routes between Asia and the U.S.in response to North Korea's missile tests, CNNMoney reported.

The world-renowned carrier changed the flying route of its Seoul- Los Angeles flights since last July as a safety precaution against the North Korean missile tests, stated a report in Channel NewsAsia. The decision comes after Pyongyang's continuous missile tests in the Sea of Japan disregarding global opposition.

North Korea's attempts to develop an ICBM to carry a nuclear warhead to strike the American mainland have put commercial airlines operating in the busy East Asian airspace on alert, even though the chances of a plane colliding with a missile are miniscule.

The Hong Kong based airline sent out a staff note earlier this week sharing the communications from the cockpit, with the crew saying "we witnessed the DPRK missile blow up and fall apart near our current location".

An airline crew traveling from San Francisco to Hong Kong claim they had a chilling, front-row seat to North Korea's latest missile test over the Sea of Japan.

"We do take the matter seriously and are monitoring the situation very closely and will reroute our flight paths where necessary", a Cathay Pacific spokesperson added. North Korea joined the ICAO in 1977, but the last time it warned the organization of an impending missile launch was in February 2016.
