JFK water main break at Terminal 4 causes further flight delays

There was more misery for those trying to get through JFK Airport in New York Sunday as a water main break forced the closure of Terminal 4 and took with it 38 gates, majority used for global flights.

A water main break led to a shutdown of global flights into Terminal 4 on Sunday - the latest in a "cascading series" of problems that included delayed flights, stranded passengers and baggage pileups.

Overall, 143 flights were cancelled due to the water main break. The flooding took out two thirds of the arrivals area of Terminal 4, including customs and immigration processing facility.

During the breaks also we were talking about bringing the run-rate down because in Test cricket four runs per over is huge. Kumar gained appreciable movement off a well-grassed pitch to plunge the South African innings into deep trouble.

Global flights into Terminal 4 were suspended and the water main break occurred just before 2pm (1900 GMT), said a spokesman for the Port Authority of NY and New Jersey that runs the airport.

The airport on Twitter advised travelers to check with their airlines before arriving.

The New York Port Authority said the problems are due to a surge in flights produced by the rescheduling of flights, WABC reported.

China clamps down on North Korea trade as part of United Nations sanctions
Crude oil and refined petroleum supplies will be also capped, in accordance with the restrictions imposed earlier by the UN. China is the North's main trading partner and energy supplier, making its enforcement critical to the success of sanctions.

"It's getting like a madhouse", traveler Steven Litvin told NBC, leaving with his wife eight hours after their plane landed - with only half their luggage. It's now 11pm and we've just been told we won't get our baggage tonight.

"What happened at JFK Airport is unacceptable, and travelers expect and deserve better", Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton said in a statement.

Among the 1,008 arrivals and departures on Saturday, there were 94 canceled flights, the agency said on Sunday. "Customers may experience residual delays, particularly for global flights", it said.
