Google brings Android Pay and Google Wallet together under Google Pay banner

Pali Bhat, VP of Product Management for Payments at Google, announced on Monday that the search giant is bringing together all of the different ways to pay with Google into a single brand known as Google Pay. Meanwhile, users looking to make online or in-app payments can simply select Google Pay as their payment option when checking out on one of the sites that support it. Google said Google Pay is already available for several popular online services, including Airbnb, Dice, Fandango, HungryHouse and Instacart.

In the coming weeks, Google says Google Pay will be found online, in stores and across other Google products. That changed in 2015, when Google made a decision to spin off the tap-and-pay portion of the service into Android Pay.

Bhat notes that the consolidation of payment platforms into a single brand "is just the first step for Google Pay". Users often have to struggle with multiple applications such as Android Pay, Google Wallet, pay for Google services, but this is all set to change now.

Now, after Google users save their payment information to their Google account, they'll be able to apply it to purchases online and in store for retail outlets that accept NFC payments.
