Hyperkin is working on a standalone Game Boy remake

The Ultra Game Boy removes the need for a separate Android phone, and slims down the form factor quite a bit.

When you consider the success of the NES Classic and SNES Classic, it stands to reason that Nintendo would want to re-release all of its old consoles and handhelds under "Classic" branding.

Taking advantage of the wave of enthusiasm for old school hardware, gaming peripheral maker Hyperkin announced at CES 2018 this week that it is working on an updated version of Nintendo's Game Boy that will actually play original Game Boy games in addition to featuring countless improvements over the original hardware.

His next goal will give him sole possession of second, behind Rob Blake, on the Kings all-time list for defensemen goals at 100. This will be Seguin's fifth appearance in the game, while Klingberg will be making his first appearance.

The final version will also include a new backlit LCD display which can be turned off for an authentic Game Boy experience, according to Gizmodo. "It can play all of your classic Game Boy games, and possibly even your Game Boy Color carts, but you'll have to supply all of the original cartridge". It also has stereo speakers - which may feel like overkill for a device that can only run mono games but is apparently aimed at chiptune musicians.

The remake follows other popular Nintendo reissues like the NES Classic and the SNES Classic which have become best-sellers.

Gizmodo reports on a Hyperkin-made product tentatively called the Ultra Game Boy.
