Flaky Weather: Why Tallahassee Got Its 1st Measurable Snow in Decades

It's called snow, something residents of North Florida hadn't seen in nearly three decades until on Wednesday, and it is part of a deep-freeze striking the entire US East Coast.

Much of the state is under a weather alert, from freeze warnings and wind chill advisory to a winter storm warning.

Eastern parts of the city are getting "steady freezing rain, sleet and snow" while precipitation in the area has ended for the most part by Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service in Tallahassee said in a tweet.

A winter storm warning extended from the Gulf Coast in Floridas "Big Bend" region all the way up the Atlantic coast.

The November 14 national poll found Trump approval rating at near-record low; Roy Moore should drop out, voters say nearly 3-1. The recent poll asked voters to give President Donald Trump a letter grade and 39 percent of voters gave him "F".

In Tallahassee, Interstate 10 was temporarily closed as fear swelled around how much snow would be expected. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for the first time in almost four years. In Tallahassee, school officials announced that classes would remain closed Wednesday.

On January 3, 2018, Tallahassee residents witnessed their first snowfall in three decades.

"It nearly seems the town is deserted just like in the last hurricane", said Shaw, 65.

The National Weather Service said snow and freezing rain was expected to spread up the coast and warned that icy roads and low visibility could make driving treacherous. Police even had to close the bridges and overpasses in the city out of concern for drivers. The city tweeted that snow fell there for the first time in 28 years.

The snow lasted only about an hour and reached a mere 0.1 inches at the NWS office and the airport (the official station for record keeping), though higher amounts were reported farther north and east.

Sharon Rosenberg, a 35-year-old physical therapist who has lived in the state capital her entire life, said her family bundled up and went outside early in the morning hoping to catch a glimpse of the snow falling.

Canadians, particularly those in the east, should prepare for a bombardment of snow this week that will result fr oma rapidly building weather system in Florida.
