According to the Irish Times, the Wexford native, who joined Championship club Preston North End last summer, returned home earlier this week to validate his winning lottery ticket in his local supermarket in Castlebridge.

Two Minnesotans woke up on New Year's Day $1 million richer, thanks to the Minnesota Millionaire Raffle.

FORMER CORK CITY and current Preston North End defender Kevin O'Connor was the surprise victor of a €1 million National Lottery raffle over the weekend.

According to the Irish Times, the former Republic of Ireland under-21 global received the winning ticket in the post from his godfather and uncle Peadar Murphy, a native of Castlebridge, County Wexford. He really did have the best of luck, because he won the €1 million prize.

The footballer was given the winning ticket by his godfather Peadar Murphy, who purchased it on 14 December at Flanagan's Centra Supermarket.

"I don't think the win has sunk in yet", he said. One could not meet a nicer person or family.
