Kenya Airways will launch nonstop daily service between Nairobi and New York JFK on October 28.

Prior to the announcement of the new flight, Kenya and Kenya Airways went through stringent assessments before achieving Category 1 status for safety standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization, a requirement for direct flights to the U.S.

"I can't exactly tell you how happy I feel about this news", said Stanely Njoroge, a Kenyan-born resident of South Jersey.

A KQ flight will be leaving Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 10.30pm every day, and take 15 hours to NY from the current flight time of over 22 hours. The return flight will leave NY at 12:25 p.m. and arrive in Nairobi the next day at 10:55 a.m. This makes Kenya Airways the first airline to offer a non-stop flight between East Africa and the United States of America.

The carrier, which is 7.8 percent owned by Air France KLM (AIRF.PA), has started taking bookings for the flights to and from NY that will carry 234 passengers each way on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane.
