Truck crash causes fire and closes Interstate 65

As crews began to investigate the crash, they discovered one of the trucks was hauling hazardous materials, so they evacuated homes within a half-mile radius.

Wheeles said the company hired to clean up the spill told crews that the chemicals had mixed, which led to the fire.

Harry Maginity with the Indiana Department of Transportation said there was severe damage to the pavement caused by the extreme heat of the fire.

All lanes of I-65 are closed.

According to the Indiana State Police, just after 4:30 troopers responded to a personal injury crash on southbound I-65, south of Seymour.

The crash occurred near the 43 mm OF i-65 at about 5 a.m.

Wheeles said a passenger in the sleeper compartment of one of the tractor trailers was injured but is expected to recover.
