Brutal winter storm freezes waterfall in US, dumps snow in Florida

Authorities in North Carolina say two men died Wednesday night when their pickup truck overturned into a creek in Moore County, southwest of the Raleigh-Durham area.

Thursday's fourth fatality came when a vehicle near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, couldn't stop at the bottom of a steep hill covered in snow. The storm's central pressure will have fallen 53 millibars in just 24 hours - an astonishing rate of intensification.

Winter Storm Warnings are still up for the coastal areas of north Georgia through Virginia.

The Boston area received 12 inches of snow, with more on the way, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a hard freeze warning to Jacksonville, Florida, and all surrounding cities with "significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice" expected to hit from Wednesday to Thursday.

This strong change in pressure or "pressure gradient" is fairly common with these winter storms that form over the Atlantic Ocean and hit the northeastern United states with snow and strong northeasterly winds.

There's no doubt a large winter storm formed off the northeast US Coast on January 3 and 4, 2018. He added that the cold temperatures can also be deadly. It's basically just a really bad snow storm that occurs when a bunch of moisture from the south meets up with a blast of extremely cold air from the north.
