Chelsea Manning Has Filed To Run For The US Senate In Maryland

Chelsea Manning, the former Army intelligence analyst who spent several years in prison for leaking classified information, has filed to run as a Democratic candidate for Senate in Maryland.

Cardin, the incumbent senator Manning is challenging, has been a USA senator since 2006. Her Democratic opponent, Ben Cardin, who sits on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has favorable ratings and would be seeking a third term, according to the Post.

Race filings demonstrate that Manning, 30, presented her appointment to the Federal Election Commission on Thursday as a Democrat.
