United Nations report says Iran violated Yemen arms embargo

United Nations report says Iran violated Yemen arms embargo

The spokesperson of the coalition in Yemen, Turki al-Maliki, said in a statement on Thursday, that the Royal Saudi Air force had managed to intercept the missile in mid-air, without any casualties, SPA reported. Despite a punishing air campaign, the coalition backing Yemen's President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi has been unable to gain further ground against the Houthis, who control the capital Sanaa and the north and western part of the country, where most of the population lives.

Yemen lies on the southern mouth of the Red Sea, one of the world's most important trade routes for oil tankers, which pass its shores as they head from the Middle East through the Suez Canal to Europe.

While SABA gave no details on how Houthis could carry out any such move, the Bab al-Mandab strait, where the Red Sea meets the Gulf of Aden in the Arabian Sea, is only 20 km (12 mile) wide, making hundreds of ships potentially an easy target.

Netanyahu to arrive on six-day visit to India
In 1950, India recognised Israel, but did not establish diplomatic relations. "We can not always fulfil those requests", he said . Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Israel last July in the first such trip by a holder of his office.

Maliki spoke after the rebels on Monday threatened to cut off Red Sea traffic unless Saudi Arabia and its allies lifted a blockade on Yemen's ports and main global airport.

The UN experts travelled to Saudi Arabia in November and again in December to inspect the remnants of missiles fired by the Huthis in May, July, November and December.

"If the aggressors keep pushing toward Hodeidah and if the political solution hits wall, there are some strategic choices that will be taken as a no return point, including blocking the worldwide navigation in the Red Sea", Houthis' Ansarullah political council chief, Saleh al-Samad, was quoted saying.

Already one of the Arab world's poorest countries, Yemen has been brought to its knees since the Saudi-led coalition intervened in March 2015 in support of the government.

A Saudi-imposed embargo on Yemen has only recently been eased, in part because of a humanitarian outcry by the United Nations and other groups.

A provincial health official says an airstrike by the Saudi-led coalition has struck a market in northern Yemen, killing 11 people, including an 11-year-old boy.

Surgeon who burned initials into livers of two patients fined £10000
Doctors have said that burning organs in this way would not have damaged them or affected the health of the patients. Passing sentence, Judge Paul Farrer QC reportedly said: "Both of the (transplant) operations were long and hard ".

Saba gave the same toll and said that separate strikes on a house near the Saudi border had left another two people dead although there was no independent confirmation.
