More snow and ice forecast for Donegal

The warning for snow and ice covers Sunday 21 January from 6am to 6pm.

Transport Minister Humza Yousaf has warned people to think carefully before setting off.

Ferry services were cancelled and air travel was hit - Inverness airport was closed for most of the morning while there was disruption to flights at Aberdeen and Glasgow, the latter briefly closed to allow clearing operations.

In addition, rain may fall onto frozen surfaces for a time.

"On top of the amber warning we are facing a wider yellow warnings in terms of snow and ice right across the country".

This band then moves over northern England, extending into eastern England, maybe the far south of Scotland.

Mr Burkill added: "Once that clears out, we will return to frequent showers pushing in from the north west through Thursday and Friday".

Police Scotland said drivers who ventured out in the warning area, which includes the M8, M80, M77 and M74, would face "significant delays".
