HTC's Smartphone Head Chialin Chang Quits

So far, HTC has not named a successor to Chang.

The announcement said the reason for his resignation was due to a "personal career plan".

Altogether 253 candidates have filed nomination papers to contest in the ensuing Assembly election of Nagaland. Scrutiny will be held on February 8 and the last date for withdrawal is February 12.

On the other hand, Chang's position with HTC was no longer as relevant as it used to be. His replacement has not yet been announced and Chairwoman and CEO Cher Wang will likely take over his duties until the company can find someone to fill his position.

His position seemed useless as HTC sold nearly all of its smartphone design and engineering team to Google. The handset should then go on sale sometime in March or April, competing at the high-end segment of the smartphone market. He also previously ran HTC's global sales business - before eventually becoming president of smartphones and connected devices in 2016.

Following his resignation from HTC, Chang told the press that he is planning to set up his own artificial intelligence company after the Lunar New Year holiday, having come to recognize the importance of AI in industrial development. Chang leaves months after HTC released its well-received 2017 flagship, the HTC U11.
