Man who set off bombs in NYC, NJ gets prison

Rahimi is scheduled to be sentenced on Tuesday by a federal judge in Manhattan.

No one was killed.

"I get it", Berman told Rahimi after announcing the sentence.

Ahmad Rahimi reads a statement to the judge during his sentencing hearing in NY on Tuesday.

Rahimi is a naturalized USA citizen who was born in Afghanistan. "My father went to the Federal Bureau of Investigation on multiple occasions".

"I don't harbour hatred towards anyone", Ahmad Khan Rahimi said in a courtroom packed with spectators, including some of the people who were injured when one of his bombs exploded on Sep.

Candidates File Nominations in Nagaland, 443 in Meghalaya
Altogether 253 candidates have filed nomination papers to contest in the ensuing Assembly election of Nagaland. Scrutiny will be held on February 8 and the last date for withdrawal is February 12.

Rahimi, 30, said nothing about the victims of the September 2016 blast in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood that injured 30 people - which prosecutors noted in asking for the maximum sentence.

"The explosion propelled a more-than-100-pound dumpster - which was introduced as an exhibit at trial - more than 120 feet". The other bomb, four blocks north, was discovered and rendered safe before it could explode.

Authorities shut down the station, evacuated the terminal and briefly suspended service in and out of Elizabeth. A second bomb planted nearby did not detonate.

"You have no remorse for what you did", she said. One life term was mandatory but the judge exercised his discretion by imposing life sentences for counts that Rahimi's defense lawyer said deserved only a 15-year sentence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn Crowley argued that everything Rahimi has done since 2016 "has been fueled by hate", and "he has shown no remorse".

"The Chelsea bombing was an attempt to bring our city to its knees".

Martin Schulz resigns as leader of Germany's Social Democrats
"If I can contribute to that by resigning, it will have been worth it", he said outside the SPD headquarters. In a cartoon on Tuesday, the Sueddeutsche Zeitung daily showed Nahles with a whip riding an SPD snail.

In recent court papers, prosecutors painted Rahimi as a remorseless terrorist who was basking in his newfound infamy.

Police also defused another device in Chelsea and found additional pipe bombs in Rahimi's hometown of Elizabeth, New Jersey, where he worked in his family's fried chicken restaurant.

He said he considered Rahimi to be a danger to the community, citing the "hostile and threatening " nature of the bombings and the influence of "virulent anti-U.S." terrorist propaganda.

Prosecutors said Rahimi began distributing these materials in October 2017, if not earlier.

"My father failed like the system failed him", Rahimi said. "His clear intention was to take as many lives as possible". "He then walked away".

US Kills 100+ Russian Troops
The United States initially said that about 100 pro-government forces were killed in the February 7 counterattack. One US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said at least two pro-Syrian government forces were killed.
