Why did Steve Kerr let his players coach against the Suns?

After securing his 250th win with the franchise on Saturday, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr chose to hand over the coaching duties and take a break against the Phoenix Suns on Monday night.

In addition to Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala, Stephen Curry and David West tried their hands at leading the huddle.

I doubt Kerr would have done that against a better team.

One player who was not pleased after the game was Suns guard Troy Daniels, who called the situation "disrespectful" and added, "I don't think it's hard to coach those guys, though".

But in my vision, you can win but, at the same time, the club might not be happy to stay with you. In that case, it's right to send the coach away.

On the flip side, he could get his point across, and the players take this a chance to hold everyone accountable.

"It felt like the last month or so, I've been dealing with a lot on and off the court..."

In an attempt to kick-start their input, Kerr put his players in charge of coaching duties for their game against the Phoenix Suns, with three players getting a turn at drawing up plays on the clipboard. I don't feel like we focused very well at all over the last month, and it just seemed like the right thing to do. "We figured it was a good night to pull a trick out of the hat and do something different".

Most likely no one is going to say this, but this is borderline one of the most disrespectful things you can do to another team. And by the way, they won, what, 129-83.

Kerr spent the breaks outside the huddle while his players drew out plays and discussed strategy. They are exhausted of my voice and I'm exhausted of my voice. "It had to do with me trying to reach my team".

- Steve Kerr was the general manager of the Suns. They lost back-to-back games, three of four and four of 10 - all for the first time during the 2017-18 campaign.

Kerr's experiment all started as the Warriors trailed, 13-8, with 6:58 left in the first quarter. In basketball, where overall offensive philosophy is paramount over individual play-calling, players could slip in and out of the coaching role more freely than in other sports.

The acquisition of Elfrid Payton from Orlando at the trade deadline resulted in a much faster pace in Saturday's 123-113 home loss to Denver, a game in which the Suns posted season highs in field goal percentage (54.8) and points in the paint (66).
