Restrictions in Srinagar as anti-terrorist ops enters 2nd day

Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed by security forces in Srinagar's Karan Nagar area on Tuesday after a gunfight of almost 30 hours that had started after a failed attack bid on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Kashmir. Inspector general of police SP Pani said two militants are suspected to be holed up in a building adjacent to the camp after the CRPF prevented them from getting into the protected area.

Immediately after the shoot-out, J&K police's Special Operations Group (SOG) and CRPF commandos were rushed to the spot to take on the militants and flush them out from the building.

According to the CRPF officials, the millitants were hiding inside a half-constructed building near the CRPF camp in posh Karann Nagar area of Srinagar.

The airline apologised to passengers and said it was doing "all we can" to ensure delayed flights depart as soon as possible. An employee of London's Heathrow Airport was killed in a "serious accident" between vehicles on the airfield on Wednesday.

Two months later, terrorists had attacked the Nagrota army camp in Jammu and Kashmir and killed seven soldiers, including two majors.

Security forces evacuated the area and moved civilians out before launching an assault on the terrorists.

The gunfight at Karan Nagar area of Srinagar, which entered its second day on Tuesday, ended with the killing of the second militant, claimed the police. "An attack (on a camp) was averted and the terrorist fled away", Jammu-based Army spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand told PTI. The bodies of the two terrorists along with weapons have been recovered from the encounter site. The Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist group had claimed that its militants were involved in the encounter.

SSP said that parties are inside the building and are carrying room to room clearance.
