Amazon Decides To Not Sell Any New Nest Products

Digital Trends reported that the Nest team was told at the end of 2017 that Amazon would not be selling their new products including the latest smart thermostat or Nest Cam IQ., Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) announced recently that it will no longer sell new products from Google's Nest home division, once the current stock is over. The tech giants are racing to become the leader in this market, as both are building AI-powered voice operating systems, which are increasingly seen as a key channel for reaching consumers in the home.

Smart speakers including e-commerce giant Amazon's "Echo" and Google Home will generate more than $40 billion in home shopping sales in the United States and United Kingdom alone by the year 2022, according to a report released this week from OC&C Strategy Consultants. This includes thermostats, doorbells, and cameras.

While Amazon's retail team didn't specify who made this decision, the Nest employees who were on the call reportedly hold the impression that the decision came from Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. Nest has a mixed track record at Google, though, so it's also possible the company is bringing it closer to home in order to redeploy its talent towards other parts of Google's smart ecosystem.

In response to Amazon's decision, Google Nest chose to leave Amazon altogether, opting to stop selling any of its products on the retail platform. The company's "Echo", which is enabled with "Alexa" voice recognition technology, is in 10% of US homes, according to the report.

This means that the Nest devices present on Amazon could vanish overnight.
