ICRC Postpones New Aid Delivery To Eastern Ghouta

The BBC's Newsnight program two weeks ago tried to explain the situation in Eastern Ghouta as being about the regime attempting to turn local residents against these armed groups and pushing their fighters to be evacuated to elsewhere in Syria.

Hamza Hassan, a surgeon working at one of the hospitals in eastern Ghouta, said that staff was overwhelmed with chlorine odor and that he had treated 29 children with difficulties breathing. Syria Direct could not independently confirm the spokesman's claims.

Rescue workers and opposition activists in eastern Ghouta meanwhile have accused the government of using chlorine gas during the campaign.

According to the TV station Ikhbariya, the extremist groups prevented the movement of people from Ghouta through the humanitarian corridor established in al-Wafidin. Syrian state media said troops took control of the town of Beit Sawa and most of Misraba, both rebel-held communities in the heart of the enclave.

By slicing the territory, the Syrian government succeeds in further squeezing rebels, making it more hard for them to continue to hang on to the territory.

"When you are prepared to kill your own people, lying is easy too". But the recent US -led attack that killed up to 100 Russian troops in northeastern Syria - along with the proliferation of militias fighting on the side of the government, which are increasingly demanding privileges - show that the government's access to human resources on the battlefield is not without its limitations.

United Nations peace envoy Staffan de Mistura briefed the meeting and offered to help broker a deal with Russian Federation to allow fighters in Eastern Ghouta to leave, a diplomat said. The same NGO said that since the escalation of raids started on February 18, at least 867 civilians have been killed, including 186 minors. Russia's military by its own admission is playing a key role supporting the assault.

The answer has to do with Eastern Ghouta's strategic location, the government's and Russia's long-term goals for demographic change in Syria, and the future of rebel groups in the area. So far rebels have dismissed it in public and vowed to fight on.

The opposition generally rejects evacuation agreements, saying they amount to demographic engineering - a tactic through which the government forcibly displaces its opponents.

The pair were arrested on Friday for entering a prohibited military zone in the northern province of Edirne. Bozdag said Greece did not demand the extradition of the soldiers who crossed the border of Turkey.

A reported 335 victims, including 45 minors, were killed after a resolution on February 24 issued by the UN Security Council demanded a 30-day-long humanitarian truce across Syria.

It marks the second time this week that desperately needed aid operations to Eastern Ghouta have been disrupted by military developments. It was not clear whether another convoy, planned for Thursday, would go through. "Our security guarantees remain in place", he said. It is in the interests of the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to spread its military control around areas it now holds, to expand its scope of influence in key strategic locations and therefore keep its strongholds secure.

Turkey sent troops into the Afrin enclave on January 20 to drive out Syrian Kurdish fighters it considers to be terrorists.

Fore warned that malnourishment "is now more worrying for us than ever". Russian military identified him as Maj.

On Tuesday, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that he is "preoccupied" by the escalating situation in Syria. The plane was flying from the Kweires air base near Aleppo in northern Syria to Hemeimeem, which serves as the main hub for the Russian campaign in Syria.

Texas Democrats are competing again and that's good for democracy
