Michael Carrick Announces Retirement To Make Move Into Coaching

Club captain Michael Carrick has confirmed that he will bring his 12-year spell at Manchester United to an end in the summer when retiring from playing duties.

"There comes a time when your body tells you it's time".

The England global has pretty much won it all at domestic level. He's only seen action a handful of times this season, but on the eve of United's hosting Sevilla with a UEFA Champions League quarterfinal berth at stake, Carrick still maintains that he'll play a role with the current team before season's end.

Carrick underwent a treatment for irregular heart rhythm past year after he complained of feeling uneasy in Manchester United's clash against Burton in the Carabao Cup.

It helped garner him a Cy Young award and a reputation as a big-game pitcher who gets better as the season progresses. If their young starters can take step forward this season, the Phillies could make waves in the wild card standings.

Carrick was on the move again two seasons later when Manchester United forked out £14 million to acquire his signature - and it proved money well spent as he contributed to their dominance at the start of the millennium.

"But we are back in the knockout stages where it really counts and you get that extra spicy feeling".

"It's kind of been sorted", added Carrick. "That's where I'm at", he said.

"The same problem came back on the Sunday of that week in training, so then I had the procedure the following week, which I went through and now it's totally fine and I'm clear".
