Raiders cut Sean Smith; CB to be sentenced to prison for assault

The charges stem from an incident last off-season when Smith reportedly beat his sister's boyfriend.

His plea will have him serving one year in prison with three years probation, but if convicted as charged, Smith faces a maximum sentence of seven years.

Barcelona secures option to sign Brazilian midfielder Arthur
The Brazilian, 21, has been a long-term target for the Catalans following an impressive Copa Libertadores campaign last term.

Smith, who played in 29 games (23 starts) in two seasons with the Raiders, had four interceptions for Oakland and is the second high-priced veteran cornerback released by the Raiders this offseason, joining David Amerson, who was released last month.

The Raiders' move to release Smith saves the team $8.5 million on their salary cap. That combined with his 2018 salary not being guaranteed likely contributed to the Raiders releasing him. This image reflects the Oakland Raiders active roster as of Monday, June 13, 2016 when this image was taken. Getting released from the Raiders didn't really change that much about his career: He has been banned from playing since the suspension.

Oakland will again seek to bolster the secondary in free agency, looking for a starter at cornerback to pair with last year's first-round pick Gareon Conley. He has started 41 of the 60 games he has played in during four seasons with the Raiders and is strong against the run.

The 30-year-old appeared in 14 games for the Raiders last season, starting eight.

The explosion killed a 17-year-old boy and sent a woman in the home to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. Manley urged Austin residents to call police if they find any package on their doorstop that gives them "cause for concern".

The window for teams to sign free agents opens Wednesday at 1 p.m. PT, when the new league year begins.
