Brees, Saints agree to 2-year, $50M deal

Brees, Saints agree to 2-year, $50M deal

When the Saints ended, Brees said he wanted to finish his career with New Orleans, and he stressed that again in this interview, saying the contract issue wasn't a problem because he "planned on being a saint for life".

The team on Tuesday struck a two-year deal with their star quarterback worth $50 million - including $27 million in guarantees - sources told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Network's Jane Slater.

A second-round draft choice by San Diego in 2001, Brees has passed for 70,445 yards and 488 touchdowns in 17 seasons - 58,097 yards and 408 touchdowns in 12 seasons with New Orleans.

In August , the Myanmar military launched a military operation in Rakhine state after deadly attacks on police stations. Al Jazeera was not able to independently verify those claims.

If the Saints and Brees had failed to sign a new deal before the new league year begins, there will be an $18 million cap hit in dead money based on the acceleration of prorated signing bonus on the 2019 and 2020 league years.

Indeed, the Saints' future is seemingly brighter than it's been in years, but Brees' deal was the 600-pound elephant in the room.

Brees has also played against the Vikings in two of the franchise's most memorable games - the 2009 NFC Championship game, which the Saints won in overtime after a late Brett Favre interception, and, of course, the Minneapolis Miracle. I think he's the best there is.

"I love my team and am excited about the opportunity we will have together", Brees said.

The 11-time Pro Bowler threw for 4,334 yards in 2017, which was the least since he joined the Saints in 2006. "But the bottom line is, the real challenging part comes with once you've had success, how do you handle that success?"

"And if we want to be a great team, we have to approach it with that mindset".

There is often a false narrative about players taking less that pervades a contract situation, but in the case of Drew Brees it is very much real, with the Saints quarterback taking substantially less than his market value in order to stick in New Orleans.
