Donald Trump fires personal assistant Johnny McEntee amid 'financial crimes' investigation

"I have been warning for more than a year about the White House's deficient background check process - as well as specific officials who have been granted access to our nation's most closely guarded secrets despite derogatory information known to White House officials - you have stonewalled congressional oversight efforts and refused to provide any documents requested by me or Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC)", he said in the letter.

After serving as trip director for the campaign McEntee was brought into the White House as Trump's personal assistant, where he earned $115,000 a year. CNN Chief National Security correspondent Jim Sciutto echoed Collins' claims in a tweet.

QB Sam Bradford to sign with the Arizona Cardinals
Baltimore safety Eric Weddle ripped the move, and pointed out how Bradford continues to get paid for essentially doing nothing. Look for Bradford to be the starter but it will be highly disappointing if the Cardinals were done at the position.

It's impossible to speculate what kind of potential financial crimes jettisoned McEntee from the White House, but they must be pretty serious if the Department of Homeland Security is running point on the investigation.

The firing of McEntee was apparently so sudden that he didn't get a chance to get his belongings before he was removed from the premises. It wasn't clear why McEntee, a well-liked figure in the White House, had been dismissed, and campaign aides weren't given a reason. He apparently left his jacket at his former workplace, said another White House official. He was a near-constant presence in the West Wing, and was one of a select group of staffers who were often summoned by the President to the White House residence. Trump appointed Schiller as the Deputy Assistant to the President and the Director of Oval Office Operations. Trump's top economic adviser, Gary Cohn, left recently amid internal debate over Trump's plans for tariffs. Another of his originals, Communications Director Hope Hicks, resigned February 28.

The new security clearance rules imposed by Kelly have also meant a change for another close Trump adviser: Jared Kushner. In February, special counsel Robert Mueller filled fraud charges against former Trump campaign associates Paul Manafort and Rick Gates, accusing Manafort of being part of a decade-long money laundering scheme.

Soon after, Trump's 2020 reelection campaign released a statement announcing that McEntee would join its ranks as a "senior advisor for campaign operations" along with Katrina Pierson.
