Engineer Left Voicemail About Cracking on Florida Bridge Days Before It Collapsed

Police confirmed this morning three people were found dead in cars that had been trapped after the bridge fell at Florida International University (FIU) on Thursday.

The family-owned MCM is a prominent and politically connected corporation in South Florida.

According to ABC News, the lead engineer working on the bridge called the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) about cracking he noticed in the structure. "Safety has always been our number one priority".

"We are just heartbroken", the statement concludes.

"It was terrible", he told CNN affiliate WSVN. However, he added, there were no safety concerns on the project.

He has been a very popular pick for T20 franchises across the world, stepping out exactly 200 times and scoring 5695 runs. He was equally effective in the One-day global arena, scoring 4440 runs in 136 outings at an impressive 47.28.

The OSHA violations included citations for employees not receiving proper hazardous-chemicals training before handling concrete, not removing water from excavations and not wearing safety glasses and protective gloves, documents show. State, local and federal investigators are trying to determine what caused the collapse, but officials cautioned the probe as well as the recovery effort will take time. It also has been reported that the bridge was not open for pedestrian traffic yet because construction was still left to build a tower that would have supported the walkway from above with cables.

Allison said the company had done "shoddy work".

Meanwhile, teams of rescue workers and engineers with heavy lifting equipment began the slow and unsafe task of lifting the unstable remains of the 950-ton concrete structure from vehicles that were crushed when the bridge came down early on Thursday afternoon.

"Someone on the side of the road had asked a police officer if she had heard any response from the people inside the vehicle", Carrasco said, "and she shook her head and said no".

"At no point during any of the communications above did FIGG or any member of the FIU design build team ever communicate a life-safety issue", FDOT said in an email Friday.

NEWSChannel 2 reached out to Dan Crossway, who was the acting fire chief for the Maynard Fire Department at the time, and he was unavailable but he says it was a day he'll never forget. The violations were not detailed.

The lawsuit stemmed from FIGG Bridge Group's building of the Southern Norfolk Jordan Bridge in 2012.

Civil engineering experts who viewed photos of the planned structure and the collapse have raised questions about how FIU and its contractors approached the project.

The Florida department of transportation (FDOT) announcement late on Friday that an engineer hired by the university left a voicemail message with the state agency two days before the collapse, seeking to draw attention to the crack.
