Apple hails 100% renewable milestone for global facilities

Apple hails 100% renewable milestone for global facilities

But according to Apple, it is doing just that: Its retail stores, offices, data centers and co-located facilities in 43 countries are all powered by renewable energy.

Renewable energy projects that provide power to Apple facilities range from large wind farms in the USA to clusters of hundreds of rooftop solar systems in Japan and Singapore. Fifteen more projects are now in construction, Apple says.

China was the biggest investor in renewable energy in 2017, sinking $US126.6 billion into the industry, a 30% increase over 2016.

The company also announced that nine more suppliers have committed to powering their Apple-specific operations with 100% clean energy (not necessarily renewable).

We're pleased to announce that in partnership with Walmart, Target, Johnson & Johnson, and Google, the state of Georgia has approved a new program that would allow companies to buy renewable energy directly through the state's largest utility, Georgia Power.

Across the world Apple and partners are working on developing renewable energy projects that represent a diverse range of energy sources from solar arrays to wind farms, biogas fuel cells and micro-hydro generation systems.

Interestingly, tech rival Microsoft Corp broke new ground by signing the biggest single corporate solar agreement in U.S. history earlier this year.

One of DTE Energy's new wind power projects will come online later this year, with another beginning operation in 2019. "After years of hard work we're proud to have reached this significant milestone", Cook said. When they're complete, it'll mean in excess of 1.4 gigawatts of energy generation, spread across a total of eleven countries.

In a separate interview, on NPR, Sandberg said that Facebook has "an ads-based business model, just like TV, just like radio". The firestorm over the improper data shared has sparked calls for investigations on both sides of the Atlantic.

Apple achieving 100% renewable energy for all of its operations globally is an impressive feat that begs the question to other corporations around the world: If Apple can do it, why can't you?

Through this program, Google will procure 78.8 megawatts (MW) of solar energy for our Douglas County, Georgia data center, as part of our effort to utilize renewable energy in every market where we operate.

Apple continues to urge suppliers to use more clean energy, claiming that they will have "a leg up" on competitors for Apple's business, Jackson stated.

We've still got some really tough games towards end of the season, but three points against Stoke will be crucial. Marko Arnautovic then had West Ham's first chance from Arthur Masuaku's beautifully weighted ball over the top.

And over 85 suppliers have signed up for Apple's Clean Energy Portal that helps suppliers find renewable energy in different regions around the world. Apple is also urging suppliers to follow its lead.
