Facebook Messenger will soon let you delete your sent messages

The Facebook CEO has been under fire ever since it emerged that political research firm Cambridge Analytica used data acquired from an app to influence elections in US.

It is now broadening its investigation by joining the B.C. privacy czar's probe of Victoria-based firm AggregateIQ, which began late a year ago, to determine whether the company broke privacy laws.

Facebook has suspended Canadian company AggregateIQ from its platform, citing concerns that the firm has links to Cambridge Analytica's parent company and had unwarranted access to user data.

In addition, 87 million users whose data might have been shared with Cambridge Analytica will get a more detailed message informing them of that fact. Now, TechCrunch reports, Facebook plans to roll out an "unsend" feature to everybody.

Allowing people to go further back in time and delete messages that were expected to be archived could lead misleading conversations in the future. "AggregateIQ works in full compliance within all legal and regulatory requirements in all jurisdictions where it operates".

Facebook had said that executives' messages were deleted in the name of "corporate security", but now the social network has once again been forced to apologize to users. We started testing the authorisation process this week, and people will begin seeing the label and additional information in the United States later this spring, it said. "And her response was, 'Well, they told us that they deleted it, ' which seems. a pretty weak defense, and unfortunately that's not going to be enough for lawmakers". This may take some time.

Facebook said: "We do know that 15 people in Ireland installed thisisyourdigitallife, and up to 44,687 people in Ireland may have been friends with someone who installed the app, and, therefore, may have been affected". And until this feature is ready, we will no longer be deleting any executives' messages. "We should have done this sooner - and we're sorry that we did not", reads a statement by Facebook's spokesperson, cited by the media.
