Google breaks ground on AL data center

Once fully operational, the $600 million dollar data center is expected to employ 75-100 people in Jackson County.

Writing a stern letter to the Google boss, thousands of employees are protesting the project that the company received from the Pentagon, The New York Times reports.

Bridgeport mayor David "Bubba" Hughes called Google's development a game-changer for the small city on the north end of Jackson County. "They're using local contractors, local vendors, and it's going to be a big boom for this community", said Jackson County EDA President Shelia Shepard.

Construction work has begun on the site of Google's $600 million Alabama data center. It is not immediately clear when NCLAT plans to hear Google's appeal, but a verdict in favor of CCI can have wide-ranging implications as far as online competition is concerned.

"The construction jobs will be several hundred construction jobs, and it's a great company".

Before joining Google, Giannandrea had stints at Netscape and General Magic.

"It's a momentous occasion for my family to be back in Alabama and to be able to talk about how Google can bring that same opportunity that I had for education and knowledge to families here in Jackson County by investing in this center and our children and all that they can become", Boden said. Standridge said the extra land might be used for future expansions.

He says Trump could argue that Congress is refusing to take real action on border security, so they have forced his hand. If the administration determines that more troops are needed, "we'll make that decision at that time".

The overall environment and philosophy of Silicon Valley notwithstanding, it can be hard to find too many other companies that have employees who are as progressive as those in Google.

At Google, where he went to work in 2010, the 53-year-old Giannandrea led the company's search work and was instrumental in integrating AI throughout its products: Internet search, Gmail and its own Google Assistant.

Data process centers handle as many as 100 billion searches for Google every month and 500 hours of video uploads to YouTube every minute. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey said. "This commitment by this fine company will not just grow this business; it will help grow this community. This particular project has so much meaning not only for Jackson County but also for the state of Alabama", said Greg Canfield, secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce.

Even more good news for Bridgeport citizens, Google granted Jackson Co.
