Google Home & Home Mini has arrived in India

The Google smart speakers unveiled at the company's annual I/O conference back in 2016 have finally made their debut in the country after a long wait.

Google is all set to launch its latest series of smart speakers, Google Home and Home Mini, in India. It will be available on Flipkart and more than 750 retail stores including Reliance Digital, Croma, Bajaj Electronics, Vijay Sales, Sangeetha, and Poorvika.

The Google Home speaker for ₹9,999 and the Mini for ₹4,499 will be available immediately on Flipkart and at several offline outlets, such as Croma and Reliance Digital.

Smart speakers are a new market in India, with Amazon's Echo and Echo Dot being the other major players. Users can now use Google Home devices to initiate hands-free calling from their numbers.

Google Home Mini supports both WiFi and Bluetooth, whereas the bigger Home speaker is only Wi-Fi-enabled. In terms of pricing, the Google Home Mini is available for Rs. 4499 whereas the Google Home is priced at Rs. 9999 in India. To try it out, just touch and hold the Home button or say "Ok Google" on eligible smartphones and your personal Google Assistant will be ready to help you throughout your day. Google Assistant in Hindi rolled out officially a few weeks ago, and it'll be heading to the Google Home and Home Mini at a later date. Home will be available in India in the Chalk colour variant. The Alexa-powered Amazon Echo speakers are great on their own, but Google Home has its own perks like a massive sea of information at its disposal. Google Assistant can control Netflix if you use a Chromecast on the TV. Mini has far-field mics so it can hear even when there's music playing or loud noise in the background: its circular design it can project 360-degree sound, with just one speaker. While Google has the advantage of its search engine, Amazon has spent about three years customising content and interaction for its virtual assistant to fit into Indian culture. The Amazon Echo is priced at Rs. 9,999 as well. Google is selling the Home in its standard chalk fabric base at the moment, but the Coral option will be coming soon. You can also enjoy it virtually if you have a Google Cardboard or Daydream View with the VR180 livestream and feel like you're actually there.
